North Suicide Peak

The Suicide Peaks (shot from the day before)

On Sunday Malcolm, Danny, and I met at the trailhead at 7:30 in the dark.  After quick introductions (Danny and I had yet to meet) we sorted out what group gear we would be bringing and unloaded the bikes from the trucks.  In just over an hour we were at the base of North Suicide.  We started up the snow covered talus and hard, frozen tundra slope and wrapped our way around to the face and main gully.  Crampons went on before the gully due to some hard snow and slippery snow-talus walking.  The snow in the gully proved to be decent and we made quick time up to the first rock band.  We scratched our way up through the first couple bands of rock onto another snow slope.  From there we were able to follow a snow-filled gully.  Snow cover was marginal and we ended up being on the underlying talus and rock much of the time.  We pulled onto the ridge and finagled our way to the summit.  We continued past the summit, down the opposing ridge to descend to windy gap and eventually back to the bikes by 3:30.  It was a good day out.

Not the best exposure on this photo, but Danny is so psyched that I had to include it.
